National Life Group presents over $57k to Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region

Dallas-region-donation Addison, TX- (June 13, 2023) National Life Group Foundation President Beth Rusnock spread the good June 8 with a presentation of $57,550 to Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region (CISDR) President and CEO Adam Powell to support youth mental health.

The funds come from a $40,000 National Life Group Foundation grant as well as money raised in a fundraiser by BUILD, a National Life community chartered to commit to the increase of Black agents and leaders in the insurance industry.

Rusnock and Powell were joined at the CISDR offices by BUILD Co-Chair, Kimberly Y. Evans, for a brief celebration of mutual support (pictured)

“The work Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region does is essential in helping kids be their best selves even under the most difficult circumstances,” said Beth Rusnock, President of the National Life Group Foundation. “National Life is committed to working with organizations that address children’s mental health and end childhood hunger. CISDR has done both successfully. We’re grateful for their dedication to kids in our community.”

“I am thrilled that National Life Group has chosen to invest in the work of Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region,” Powell said. “It speaks volumes of their commitment to giving back to communities in which they operate, specifically by helping students that are experiencing challenges along their journey. Equally as important, this investment allows us to serve more of those students, ensuring they have a chance to be successful in school, and beyond.”

The Foundation offers grants to nonprofit organizations primarily in central and northern Vermont and the Dallas, Texas area where the company has offices with a focus on ending childhood hunger and promoting youth mental health

To be considered for a grant, an organization must be a public charity which is exempt from income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

About CIS-Dallas.
Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded locally in 1985. The Communities In Schools intervention is a series of evidence-based best practices within the community school model, placing trained staff on campuses to provide daily intervention to high-need students and families. The four main components of service delivery include academics, behavior/mental health, social services, and attendance. Once these barriers to success are addressed, Communities In Schools is able to re-direct these K–12 children towards improved outcomes in a coordinated, caring, and individualized way.

In partnership with 14 area school districts, Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region is housed on a total of 130 Elementary, Middle and High School campuses to address the issues that place a child on the Texas Education Agency’s statewide “at-risk” list. These indicators measure a student’s potential academic success based on a series of key points in the child’s history (failed standardized test, failed core subjects, limited English proficiency, etc). Many of these markers are beyond the students’ control (foster care, family crisis, etc), but based on TEA metrics, it places them at a higher risk of dropping out of school, retention, and failure to complete high school in four years.
