National Life Group agent earns national award for community impact

james-dean-2 Montpelier, VT (June 14, 2023) National Life Group’s Managing Director James Dean recently received Finseca’s Community Impact Award in part for his efforts in co-founding Blacks Uplifted in Leadership Development (BUILD) and growing its membership. .

Dean is Founder and CEO of J.D. Financial Group and Associates, Inc., located in Greensboro, North Carolina.

A National Life Group community, BUILD was chartered to commit to the increase of Black agents and leaders in the insurance industry.

Finseca’s Awards Program recognizes excellence in traditional and contemporary field management throughout the financial security profession. The Community Impact Award was created to honor financial security firms/agencies that are having a tangible, measurable effect on their clients and their communities. To qualify, the agency or firm and its leadership must demonstrate a commitment to making their communities better by supporting a wide range of organizations in addition to training and initiatives designed to help our profession serve a more diverse group of clients.

“I am thrilled that National Life Group has chosen to invest in the work of Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region,” Powell said. “It speaks volumes of their commitment to giving back to communities in which they operate, specifically by helping students that are experiencing challenges along their journey. Equally as important, this investment allows us to serve more of those students, ensuring they have a chance to be successful in school, and beyond.”

Dean was born in Sanford, North Carolina and comes from a high achieving family rooted in faith, education, hard work and community service. He is married to his college sweetheart with whom he has three children. He feels that his role as father is his most important.

Dean is an active member at his church where he enjoys serving in his ministry as a volunteer and he mentors in the community. Over the last three years, Dean has participated in several industry leading community initiatives. He was chosen to be a MainStage speaker at NAIC Summit 2022, a speaker at CAAFP, Finseca Advance Markets as well as at virtual conferences during the Pandemic. Representation matters to Dean and his mission is to be a voice to the voiceless.

“Working in financial services allows me to inspire individuals from all walks of life to have confidence in their life and to set financial goals,” Dean said.

The recipients of this year’s Community Impact Award were recognized at Finseca’s LAMP conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, a meeting with 1,500 field leaders from across the financial services industry.

“Finseca’s leadership awards program recognizes and honors the best of the best in the insurance and financial security profession,” said Finseca President Bonnie Godsman. “Award winners illustrate the tremendous work financial security professionals are doing each and every day to help secure financial security for hundreds of millions of families.”
