Oakmont Regional band wins 2025 Beats for Good high school music competition
Montpelier, VT - (June 13, 2025) Sixth Avenue Groove has won the 2025 Beats for Good high school music competition and will open the National Life Group Do Good Fest® on July 12 featuring The Fray, Plain White T’s, Sammy Rae & The Friends and The Kwame Vibe.
Members of Sixth Avenue Groove (pictured), who attend Oakmont Regional High School in Ashburnham, Massachusetts, were notified of their win on Thursday during a surprise event at the school attended by classmates, teachers, administrators and parents.
Sixth Avenue Groove garnered the most votes from the public with a video of a performance of their version of jazz standard “You Go to My Head,” earning a $5,000 donation to their school’s music program, along with a $1,500 personal cash prize.
Musical acts Four Berry Pie and Punch, from Vermont-based high schools, were first and second runners up and will receive $2,500 and $1,000 respectively for their school’s music program. All three acts will have the opportunity to attend Do Good Fest and get a glimpse backstage.
Launched in 2023, the National Life Group Do Good Heroes initiative recognizes outstanding service by local police, fire, and rescue personnel. By engaging National Life's nationwide network of agents, the initiative shines a spotlight on individuals and departments making a positive difference through community service. National Life is once again partnering with Star 92.9 and WCAX Channel 3 to present the National Life Group Do Good Fest on the company’s back lawn in Montpelier.
Born out of the company’s “Do good, Be good and Make good” values, the National Life Group Do Good Fest has brought national acts to the back lawn of its Montpelier campus since 2014 and has raised over $2 million to support issues and efforts that matter most to its communities.
Advance tickets are required. Tickets can be reserved here for a minimum donation of $5 each. VIP tickets can be reserved for $200.
All proceeds from ticket reservations will benefit the Vermont Foodbank to help end childhood hunger, a core National Life cause.
In addition to the music, Do Good Fest will also have food trucks, a beer garden, an exclusive VIP lounge, and a Nonprofit Village where festival attendees can learn about local causes and how they contribute to the vitality of the community. The event will be capped with the Fest’s famous fireworks display.
