National Life Group adds new features to its popular Indexed Universal Life product to support the Sandwich Generation
MONTPELIER, Vt and ADDISON, Texas - (October 29, 2025) National Life Group, a leading provider of Indexed Universal Life (IUL) insurance1, has announced the release of its enhanced FlexLife Indexed Universal Life (IUL) product. FlexLife now includes a Premium Chronic Care Rider and Value Added Services Rider to support policyholders through challenging life stages.
This enhancement of FlexLife bolsters the company’s position as a leader and innovator of Indexed Universal Life products as well as of Accelerated Benefit Riders (Living Benefits).
What's New About FlexLife
- Premium Chronic Care Rider (available at charge): If a policyholder gets a qualifying diagnosis of chronic illness, they can use this rider to potentially access their full death benefit during their lifetime (up to $3 million), unlike a no-additional-premium Chronic Illness Accelerated Benefit Rider, where benefits are discounted. There is no waiting period. (Not available in CA or NY.)
- Value Added Services: Policyholders can get support when they (or people in their circle of care) struggle with health, wellness, or financial challenges. Services are provided by Homethrive, which is independent from National Life Group. (Not available in NY.)
“With National Life’s enhancement of FlexLife IUL, we’re helping families protect their futures while facing life’s challenges with greater confidence,” said Matt Frazee, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer. “By adding new benefits like the Premium Chronic Care and Value Added Services riders, we’re delivering modern solutions that directly support clients through every stage of life.”
Extra Piece of Mind in Challenging Times
The addition of the Premium Chronic Care Rider to FlexLife brings additional peace of mind to consumers who are considering life insurance protection and are also worried about what would happen if they were to get chronically ill. This rider can lessen the burden family members might have in paying for their care, because the full benefit amount can be paid out when there’s a qualifying event (up to 4% monthly of the death benefit).
The Value Added Services Rider supports caregivers in handling both everyday difficulties and more complex medical or long-term care needs with assurance. Services are provided by Homethrive, which is independent from National Life Group.
Both riders can help those in the Sandwich Generation (adults raising children while also caring for aging parents).

An Indexed Universal Life (IUL) insurance policy is usually a fixed universal life (UL) policy where interest is determined, at least in part, by the performance of a specified market index. Unlike traditional UL policies, the policy owner may receive zero interest for a single crediting period if the index performs poorly. However, with most designs, the premiums are protected and guaranteed to credit a minimum interest rate in the event the policy is surrendered. The owner of an IUL policy may experience better interest crediting than a traditional UL policy during periods when the market performs well. IUL policies do not directly participate in any stock or equity investments. An investment cannot be made directly into an index. The amount of interest credited is limited by a “cap”. The 0% floor provided by an IUL policy ensures that during crediting periods where the index is negative, that no less than 0% interest is credited to the index strategy. However, monthly deductions continue to be taken from the account value, including a monthly policy fee, monthly expense charge, cost of insurance charge, and applicable rider charges, regardless of interest crediting.
Living Benefits are provided by no-additional-premium Accelerated Benefits Riders (ABRs), except for the Premium Chronic Care rider which includes an additional charge. Payment of accelerated benefits will reduce the cash value and death benefit otherwise payable under the policy. Receipt of accelerated benefits may be a taxable event, may affect your eligibility for public assistance programs, and may reduce or eliminate other policy and rider benefits. Please consult your personal tax advisor to determine the tax status of any benefits paid under this rider and with social service agencies concerning how receipt of such a payment will affect you. Riders are supplemental benefits that can be added to a life insurance policy and are not suitable unless you also have a need for life insurance. Riders are optional and may not be available in all states or on all products. Guarantees are dependent upon the claims-paying ability of the issuing company.
The Accelerated Benefit Rider for Premium Chronic Care is optional and may be subject to exclusions and/or limitations, and is not available in CA. Premium Chronic Care (PCC) rider benefit payouts are up to 2% or 4% monthly of the death benefit, as chosen at time of issue {subject to the IRS per diem limit). You can reduce but not increase the payout percentage after issue. In addition, the lifetime limit for the PCC rider is independent of the lifetime limit on other Accelerated Benefit Riders. Not available in CA or NY.
Value Added Services are performed by a third-party provider, which is independent from National Life Group, and may be available to the policyowner, insureds, and/or beneficiaries. No costs will be paid or reimbursed by National Life Group for these services. In CA, FL, and ND, the same services are provided but without adding the rider to the policy. Not available in NY. There's no extra charge for this rider.
