Martha Leiper
Martha Leiper retired as executive vice president, chief investment officer of Unum Group since October 2019, responsible for the investment and asset management strategies of Unum’s portfolio. Before re-joining Unum after a nine-year tenure with USAA, she held leadership roles of increasing responsibility with Unum (including predecessor companies) from 1985 to 2010, most recently as senior vice president and deputy chief investment officer from January 2006 to May 2010. She also served as the chair of the Unum Investment Committee and Benefit Finance Committee.
Ms. Leiper previously served as senior vice president, corporate finance and enterprise money movement at USAA. While at USAA, she also served as senior vice president, corporate finance and investments, and as senior vice president, chief investment officer. Ms. Leiper served on the advisory committee for diversity and inclusion at USAA.
Ms. Leiper currently serves as an Insurance Advisor for Nuveen. Working within the Nuveen Insurance Team, she uses her expertise in investments to help insurance clients bridge the gap between investment opportunities and the complex regulatory environment. In addition, she works with various teams within Nuveen to help formalize initiatives aimed at unlocking insurance capital for positive social and environmental change.
Leiper serves on the board of directors of the River City Company and Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga. She is a Trustee for the University of Chattanooga Foundation.
She holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Science in business administration and finance from the University of Tennessee. She is a chartered financial analyst and a certified public accountant and is active in industry associations.
