National Life Group Delivers Nine Tons of Supplies To Sandy Survivors

Montpelier VT — National Life Group sent over 18,000 lbs. – 9 tons – of supplies donated by employees, other local individuals and businesses to Staten Island for distribution to those affected by SuperStorm Sandy. The supplies, which included bottled water, socks, pet food, cleaning supplies, clothes, blankets, toys and more, were delivered by National Life Group employee volunteers on Wednesday.

“Nobody knows better than we do in Vermont how it feels to go through a disaster like this,“ said Mehran Assadi, President and CEO of National Life Group. “We just want to be a good citizen and help out our neighboring states.”

National Life Group employees Eric Kemp and Joe Blais originally planned to take one truck but needed to get a second since so many supplies were collected. They drove directly from central Vermont to Staten Island where they were greeted by volunteers from around the country at a local drop-off point.

“I was so impressed by how welcoming and organized everyone was,” said Eric Kemp. “It was amazing to be able to help.”

The 9 tons of supplies were collected in a single day – Tuesday – and were donated by National Life Group employees, area residents and area businesses. The delivery was part of a larger effort by the company to provide Sandy relief. National Life Group has made monetary contributions to local, on-the-ground relief efforts in the region and its agents and employees who live in the region have been volunteering their time.

“The news does no justice to the real despair and war zone look we are experiencing. It is absolutely heartbreaking,” shared Victor Muro, Staten Island resident and General Agent with National Life, who handed out soup, blankets and other supplies. “We will bond and rebuild together one day at a time!”
