“Sandra’s leadership has opened many doors for the Mental Health Association of East Tennessee, including ensuring Knox County Schools (the 3rd largest district in Tennessee) is the MHA’s greatest partner in our school based mental health outreach programs called Mental Health 101 teacher training program,” her nominator wrote. “Sandra worked behind the scenes with administrators and policy makers to make Mental Health 101 a mandatory program at middle and high schools in the district. This leadership has led to Mental Health 101 being taught to 34,000 students annually at 119 schools. The result is reduced suicide contemplation & planning (30%) and decreased attempts (57%) while increasing the number of teens engaged in treatment by 453%.”
“Our company lives its values to Do good. Be good. Make good every day,” said National Life President and CEO Mehran Assadi. “We’re proud to recognize our agents when they share our commitment to doing good in the communities in which we operate. We’re humbled by Sandra’s determination to help students and educators with mental health outreach, especially during this challenging time.”
