On Site Fitness Center
Our Montpelier campus hosts a new and improved fitness center. For a minimal cost, members have access to a four-room fitness center that has areas for weight training, stretching, cardio workouts and a group exercise studio. Men’s and women’s locker rooms are located nearby and provide showers and locker facilities. Each exercise room is equipped with a flat screen television.
In Dallas, we have partnered with local health clubs to provide discounted rates to our employees.
Group Exercise Studio
The group exercise studio houses a number of classes including strength training, yoga, and traditional aerobic type classes. Our fitness schedule changes periodically, and can be found on our employee portal under Employee Activities. While classes are not in session, the room can be used by Fitness Center members as a fitness studio for things like stretching and free weight work.
Par Course
Located at our Montpelier campus is a 1.2 mile trail with 18 fitness stations. The par course is used as a running/walking trail during the summer season and as a snow shoe trail during the winter season.
Onsite Cafeteria
Our Montpelier campus has a state-of-the-art cafeteria operated and staffed by The New England Culinary Institute (NECI). NECI provides food service to National Life Group employees and tenants and also uses the space to train students. Daily soup, grill, deli, and build-your-own specials are posted on the company website. NECI also offers a pre-order sandwich option for employees on the run. There is a focus on having fresh, healthy, locally grown and made foods available. NECI Weekly Menu.
LIFE Program
The Lifestyle Improvement For Employees (LIFE) Program is an incentive program that promotes healthy lifestyles. Employees earn points for participation that may be redeemed for a variety of prizes. The LIFE committee oversees fitness and year round wellness activities for both our Montpelier and Dallas campuses.
Take the Challenge
The LIFE committee hosts an array of contests throughout the year. Two popular contests were the biggest loser contest and a pedometer challenge. Winners were awarded workout equipment and weekend getaways. In addition, many employees participate in informal bicycling, running, walking and snowshoeing groups.
Community Wellness
National Life Group is a leader in community involvement. In 2008, the National Life Group Charitable Foundation made a $250,000 donation to assist in the construction of a radiation therapy facility at Central Vermont Medical Center. The facility is open and named the National Life Cancer Treatment Center. National Life Cancer Center Opens.
Onsite Wellness Fair
Over 35 local vendors participate in National Life Group’s health and wellness fair for both our campuses. Each year representatives from businesses such as Onion River Sports, GoVermont.com, our own alternate transportation program and the Vermont Cancer Society participate. It’s a great opportunity for employees to learn and experience a variety of wellness approaches.
