National Life Group Community Outreach
National Life Group recently announced a new policy: up to 40 hours per employee per year of volunteer time at a qualified non-profit will be paid as
regular work hours.
National Life Group has a deep commitment to service. In support of this commitment, we implemented a new policy to make it easier for employees to
volunteer in the community during regular work hours: full and part time employees may take up to 40 hours a year from work to volunteer. Now
we're making it easier for non-profits to tell our employees when they need help and what that specific volunteer opportunity entails. With more
than 800 Montpelier based employees, we want to facilitate a match between the needs of non-profits and our talented and willing employees. If you are
a leader of a 501(c)3 organization and need volunteers please send an email to Martha Trombley Oakes:
mtrombleyoakes@nationallife.com. The email should contain the following:
- Contact information:
- Organization's name
- Physical address of the volunteer opportunity
- Contact person's email and phone number
- A few sentences about the volunteer need:
- Number of volunteer hours needed and number of people desired
- When can the work be done? Our volunteer policy allows for work from Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
- What does the project involve? Please note any physical aspects of the work or special clothing or supplies needed
- If your organization is not well known, please briefly describe your work in the community
Please submit your request four weeks prior to the day volunteers are needed. Please be aware that we plan to publicize
volunteer requests in various ways: National Life Group employee website, bulletin boards, etc. Photos may be taken of the volunteer session.
Transportation will be provided by the individuals or the company. In the past our employees have done a wide variety of volunteer work including, but
not limited to: office projects, clean-up, painting, filing, organizing, etc. While our employees have been volunteering for decades, this opportunity
to match projects withvolunteersis a new aspect of our outreach. We hope our non-profit partners will help us streamline the process -
please no phone calls, if you have questions email Martha: mtrombleyoakes@nationallife.com.
Sorry, we can not guarentee that our employees will be able to volunteer for your project.
Example:
The Family Center of Washington County, 35 Sherwood Drive, Montpelier, VT 05601 needs help with a 2,000 piece mailing. Contact Joann, joannj@fcwcvt.org or 262-3292 x129. Approximately 14 volunteer hours are needed. We can accommodate 3-6 people
volunteering at one time between Sept. 8 - 10. Volunteers will be putting labels and stamps on envelopes. They will also fold and stuff envelopes
making sure the personalized letter gets into the correct envelope. Keeping letters and envelopes in order is part of the project. The Family Center
serves 23 Central Vermont towns with 15 separate programs for young children and their families including childcare, finding and paying for childcare,
playgroups, parent education and programs for young parents.
