A.M. Best and Moody’s affirm financial strength ratings for National Life Insurance Co. and Life Insurance Company of the Southwest
A.M. Best Company has affirmed the A (Excellent) financial strength rating for both National Life Insurance Company and Life Insurance Company of the Southwest.
The rating is the third highest of the 16 categories used by A.M. Best.
In a press release announcing the decision (September 21, 2009) A.M. Best said the rating was based on the companies':
- Profitable operations;
- Conservative risk profile;
- Diverse distribution channels;
- And good expense management.

The A.M. Best decision came 10 days after Moody’s Investors Service affirmed A2 ratings for National Life Insurance Co. and Life Insurance Company of the Southwest.
The rating of A2 (Good) is the sixth highest of 21 categories used by Moody's Investors Service in its ranking of financial strength.
In a press release announcing the decision (September 11, 2009) Moody's said the rating was based upon the companies':
- Strong and resilient capitalization;
- Ample liquidity;
- Excellent investment portfolio quality;
- And stable closed block of participating life insurance.
