Michele S. Gatto is executive vice president, chief people officer, and chief legal officer of National Life Group. She joined the company in 1999 as senior vice president and general counsel. In 2003 she was appointed executive vice president - corporate services and general counsel. In 2009 she assumed the additional role of chief people officer.

Formerly she was vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of Massachusetts Casualty Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada (U.S.), from 1997 until its sale in 1999. From 1986 until 1997, Gatto served in a number of positions with increasing legal and management responsibility within the Law Department at The Paul Revere Corporation, now merged with UNUM-Provident Corporation.

Gatto is currently the 81st president of the Association of Life Insurance Counsel (ALIC). Founded in 1913, the ALIC is the bar association for lawyers in the life insurance profession and a leading authority on industry issues.
