Any quality company such as National Life that has been around for more than 150 years has a wealth of interesting trivia that will give you insight into the company and the people who make it successful.

Q. When did National Life hire its first female employee?
A. Emma Dimmick was hired in 1877 and she was paid $1.50 per day. Interestingly, she was hired because of a sudden dramatic increase in incoming applications.

Q. In an ad posted in the Times Argus on October 5, 1960, what did National Life ask people not to do?
A. Shoot deer on our front lawn.

Q. How big is the mural in the main lobby?
A. The mural is 50 feet long, 8 feet high and measures 57,000 square inches.

Q. The exterior of the National Life Home Office building is of gray granite sliced from a single block of Barre granite. When the Home Office was completed in 1960 there was only one other building in the world with the same siding. Where was that building?
A. 133 State Street, Montpelier, Vermont. It was the former National Life Home office.

Q. At National Life, what does "N1850L" represent?
A. The FAA registration number of the former National Life corporate airplane, a twin-engine Beachcraft Bonanza.
