PAUL SAMPLElayout spacer
Sample was a widely known and recognized creator of murals. He was commissioned to create a 50 foot by 8 foot mural depicting the history of Vermont. Over four decades later, his mural continues to dominate the lobby of the National Life Home Office.

The mural depicts 50 objects, individuals, or events from Vermont history and was dedicated on March 5, 1961. Sample create the mural in his studio at Dartmouth College in nearby Hanover, New Hampshire.

On the day the mural was to be hung in the pre-built frame, Sample discovered that he had made the canvas 2" too high and 2" too long. He cooly took a razor blade and trimmed the excess in 3' strips. He signed each piece and handed them out at random. Today, these have become highly collectable as signed originals.
