(March 14, 2007) National Life Group has redirected one of its roof
webcams to provide a view of the Winooski River.
The company did so Wednesday at the request of the National Weather Service, which issued a flood watch for the city
of Montpelier.
National Life maintains two webcams on the roof of its North Building - one that provides a view of the State House to the
east and one that provides a view of Camel's Hump to the west. The webcams are very popular and are used by the recreation industry and resort
owners to provide views of Vermont.
National Life employees went up on the roof Wednesday morning and found that neither camera would be able to see the
Winooski River as it passed through the downtown, but that the Camel's Hump camera had a view of the river just west of the downtown, as it passes
through what is known as "cemetery curve." That camera was redirected to focus on the river.
National Life officials said the camera would remain focused on the river as long as the threat of a flood persists.
National Life Group is made up of the flagship company, National Life Insurance Company, founded in Montpelier in 1850,
Sentinel Asset Management Inc., Equity Services, Inc., and Life Insurance Company of the Southwest of Dallas, Texas. In 2006 the Group sold American
Guaranty and Trust Company to Royal Bank of Canada.
