(April 18, 2007) Montpelier, VT — National Life Group is ranked in the FORTUNE 1000, the annual
list of the country’s largest corporations according to revenue.
The financial services company is ranked 786 in the latest listings, which are based on 2006 revenue.
National Life Group is the only Vermont-based company to appear on the magazine’s 2007 ranking of the 1,000
largest corporations.
The Fortune magazine ranking places National Life Group as the tenth largest mutual insurance company
in the country. Leading the list for the mutual insurance industry is New York Life, which was ranked 78th overall, and TIAA-CREF,
which was ranked No. 80.
Rounding out the top 10 were Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance, Northwestern Mutual, Guardian Life of America,
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Western & Southern Financial, Mutual of Omaha, CUNA Mutual Group and National Life Group.
National Life CEO Tom MacLeay said he was pleased to see National Life on the Fortune listing. "What matters most
to us, though, is not our size," he said. "It is the service that we provide to our customers."
National Life Group is made up of the flagship company, National Life Insurance Company, founded in Montpelier
in 1850, Sentinel Asset Management Inc., Equity Services, Inc., and Life Insurance Company of the Southwest of Dallas, Texas. In 2006, the
Group sold American Guaranty and Trust Company to Royal Bank of Canada.
