(April 23, 2007) Montpelier, VT — Edward J. Bonach, who has been National Life Group’s
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for five years, was named Monday to a similar position at
Conseco, Inc. (NYSE: CNO)
Conseco CEO C. James Prieur announced that Bonach will replace Eugene M. Bullis, who is
retiring. “Ed Bonach is one of the most able financial executives in our industry,” said Prieur. “He brings to
Conseco a wealth of experience and a strong record of achievement and leadership.”
National Life CEO Thomas H. MacLeay congratulated Bonach on his new position. “Ed Bonach has
been a valued and an invaluable member of our executive team for five years,” said MacLeay. “His tireless efforts have
helped us strengthen our financial foundation. I wish him well on this next chapter of his successful career.”
Bonach joined National Life in April 2002 after spending 23 years with Allianz Life.

in 1850, Sentinel Asset Management Inc., Equity Services, Inc., and Life Insurance Company of the Southwest of Dallas, Texas. In 2006, the
